Pigeon is a very unusual program that specially prepares a PC
in case of theft. It automatically starts when the PC is
booted, then waits for a TCP/IP connection to the internet. It
then locates an SMTP server (mail server) and sends an e-mail
to a prespecified recipient. Included in the e-mail are the
user’s IP address and, if possible, the reverse lookup for
that address. This information can be used by a law
enforcement agency to geographically track down a PC. |
